NEW BERN, Craven County - The Kafer Park baseball field hasn't been used for baseball since the 1970s. One local league is changing that.

The East Carolina Amateur Baseball League set out to find a home field in September, and in April they will finally have one. Board of Directors member Doug Amerson said bringing baseball back to Kafer Park has been a lifelong dream.

"It's a big day for me, it's a big day for the city," Amerson said.

The field used to be home to the New Bern Bears and the New Bern Giants.

The East Carolina Amateur Baseball League is a league for older men in the community. They currently have six teams and will play the New Bern team's season-opener at Kafer Fields is on April 9 at 1 p.m. This will be the first game played on the field in over 30 years.
