Arrest made in early-morning shooting in New Bern

NEW BERN, Craven County - New Bern Police have arrested a man in a shooting that happened early Thursday morning.

Leroy Bryant, 59, of New Bern, was arrested without incident. He is the brother if the victim, James Bryant, who was shot on March 9.

Leroy Bryant was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm in the city limits and carrying a concealed weapon. He was placed in jail under a $100,000 secured bond. He had a court appearance on Friday.

Officials responded to a shots fired call on March 9 at around 6:46 a.m. at the 800 block of Clark Avenue. James Bryant was suffering a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center for treatment.
