Annual Beaufort Pirate Invasion will be held after all
BEAUFORT, Carteret County - You'll be able to enjoy this year's Beaufort Pirate Invasion in Beaufort after all.
Organizers said the popular festival is back on and won't have to be postponed this year. The news became official Monday night when Beaufort town commissioners approved a special event application for the August celebration. The event will now be held Aug. 11-12 in Beaufort, according to the organization's website.
"Pirate Invasion is so engrained in this town of Beaufort, the people, the pirates, it goes together," event organizer Horatio Sinbad told NewsChannel 12's Resita Cox Tuesday evening. "It's something everyone looks forward to every year."
Organizers announced back in April the event this year would be postponed to focus on the 2018 event. That's the 300th anniversary of Blackbeard, the famous and long-feared pirate who roamed the waters from Beaufort to Bath and many other locations.
Thanks to donations from volunteers and concerns from the community, the invasion is back on and as big as usual.
