30th Annual Marine Corps Half Marathon returns to Camp Lejeune
CAMP LEJEUNE, Onslow County - The 30th Annual Marine Corps Half Marathon returns to Camp Lejeune, Saturday, September 16, at 7 a.m.
The Marine Corps Half Marathon is the oldest continuously running Marine Corps Half Marathon held entirely aboard an active Marine Corps Base and offers runners the opportunity to run shoulder to shoulder with America's frontline -- U.S. Marines.
This race tests runners' stamina and endurance. This unique feature exposes runners to military life as the course winds throughout many different areas of Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. The Marine Corps Half Marathon starts and finishes at the historic Goettge Memorial Field House.
Returning is the Heroes Mile, presented by Jacksonville Tourism Development Authority. The Memorial Mile pays tribute to service members who were killed while serving our country. Honor Memorials will be placed along a one-mile stretch near the Scarlet Golf Course along Brewster Blvd.
This year, 16 Memorial Markers will honor those killed in the military plane crash in Florida earlier this year. Six Marines and one Sailor from Camp Lejeune were among those killed in the crash.
