A Hubert woman allegedly shot and killed her mother at a condominium complex in Cedar Point overnight.

Detectives with the Carteret County Sheriff's Office arrested April Lynn Harvey, 56, around 6:40 a.m. on Friday for the murder of her mother, 77-year-old Evelyn Mary Harvey.

"April Harvey has been cooperative with investigators and actually made her own call to report the incident...to the Onslow County Communications Center" Major Jason Wank, Chief Detective, said.

Based on the phone call, Onslow County deputies responded to April Harvey's home, while Carteret County deputies responded to Evelyn Harvey's home.

Deputies found Evelyn Harvey dead in her home at "The Villas at Megan's Bay" as a result of a single gunshot wound to the head. It is believed that a recent family dispute involving finances was the motive of the crime.

"Woke up this morning and lots of police tape all over the neighborhood," Sherod Trafton, a neighbor, said. "Looked like they were looking for something they were looking over here in the forest, they had the trash cans over there roped off and I know the lady who lives there so obviously I was concerned. She gave us all the patio furniture so I was kind of concerned about her."

Officials recovered the .357 caliber revolver, reportedly used in the homicide, near the Swansboro-Cedar Point Bridge.

Harvey was charged with one open count of murder and placed in the Carteret County Jail under no bond. She is scheduled for her first court appearance on Monday, April 9, 2018 in Carteret County District Court.
