Two arrested, charged in string of robberies

Greenville Police have arrested two suspects in a string of robberies around the city.

David Wayne Pope, Jr., 34, and Stacey Lynn Powell, 32, were arrested and charged Thursday. They were processed at the Pitt County Detention Center.

GPD officials said the arrests came after a robbery at Ulta Beauty at 3140 Evans Street. The suspect said the robber had a weapon and stole a woman's purse. A short time later, officers spotted the suspect's vehicle pulling into the Speedway located at the corner of Memorial Drive and Country Club Drive. Three people inside the vehicle were detained for questioning. Interviews conducted at the police department resulted in the arrest of Pope and Powell. Their charges are as follows:

Stacey Lynn Powell, 32

-- Aid and Abet Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon

-- Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon

Through an investigation, Pope and Powell were also linked by police to an attempted robbery earlier Thursday morning in the parking lot of the Walgreens located at 671 S. Memorial Drive. Officers also recovered evidence to link Pope and Powell to a robbery Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of McDonald's, located at 1300 W. Arlington Boulevard, and a vehicle break-in on Lindsay Drive. No one was injured in any of the incidents.

Additional charges are forthcoming.
