Jacksonville Police arrest suspect in weekend club shooting

Jacksonville Police announced the arrest of a Jacksonville man in a shooting that happened early Monday.

Rodney Devan Pridgen Jr., 22, of Jacksonville was identified early in an investigation as a person of interest. He was taken into custody around 5 p.m. Tuesday. He was placed in the Onslow County Jail under $50,000 bond.

Officials said Jacksonville police responded to a report of shots fired at the Champagne Lounge, a nightclub located on the premises of the Red Carpet Inn at 701 N. Marine Boulevard, around 1 a.m. on Monday. Responding units found a major disturbance underway, officials said. People were fighting and running from the area and there were reports that a subject was fleeing the area with a firearm.

Officials said officers began searching the areas surrounding the hotel in pursuit of the identified subject with a firearm. During the pursuit, officials said the suspect made a threatening movement with the firearm and one officer fired his duty weapon.
