Protest scheduled at Greenville circus event
GREENVILLE, Pitt County - A protest is scheduled to take place Thursday at the site of a circus that's scheduled to perform.
Animal lovers asked East Carolina University to cancel the appearance of The Garden Brothers Circus. The group said the organization tours with animals linked with animal welfare act violations.
Animal lovers say the elephants in Garden Brothers Circus are provided by Carson and Barnes, which they say the head trainer was caught on video attacking elephants with electronic prods. A whistleblower reported that the manager of Garden Bros. habitually beats animals, withholds food, and refuses to provide veterinary care.
The circus was scheduled to perform two shows Thursday from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at Minges Coliseum. It will also be in Kenansville on Friday at the Duplin Event Center.
