Pair of ECU fraternities shuttered due to hazing, alcohol violations
GREENVILLE, Pitt County —
Two fraternities at ECU are being closed -- one indefinitely and one until the fall of 2021, school officials announced Monday morning.
The decisions behind the closing of the Tau Kappa Epsilon's Lambda Psi Chapter closure and the Delta Chi fraternity were made independently of one another. Delta Chi did not give a possible reopening date for its ECU chapter.
TKE's national chapter said it's decision was made, in part, because the "alleged action of the group do not align with our principles of love, charity and esteem."
Virginia Hardy, the vice chancellor for student affairs said both chapters were shuttered due to allegations of hazing and violations of alcohol policies.
In both cases, the chapters have been ordered to suspend operations immediately.
