GREENVILLE, Pitt County - Former East Carolina University swimmer Marion Abert will represent France in the 2017 World University Games, the school's athletic communications department announced Tuesday.

Abert helped her squad win the women's 4x200 freestyle relay at the French Championships last week in Strasbourg, France. She swam the anchor leg of the relay in 2:01.51. That enabled her team to capture the national title with a time of 8:10.48, more than seven seconds ahead of the runner-up team.

Abert, who set four ECU individual varsity records during the 2016-17 season, also won silver as part of the 4x100 freestyle relay team, was third overall in the 400 freestyle (4:15.89) and was sixth in the 200 freestyle (2:01.78).
