GREENVILLE, Pitt County - The evening started with 49 names being read.

All of those who were killed on the night of June 12, 2016 at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando were remembered during a ceremony held by East Carolina University in Greenville. "I sat up all night just listening to the names of the people who they were finding, just living in fear, knowing that this could happen in Greenville," said Shawn Grazier, who organized the event. Grazier and other community leaders held the evening of reflection to honor those killed and to remind the LGBTQ community they have support. More than 50 people attended the event at the Crave restaurant in Greenville. There were 49 candles burning in the background, each representing one of the victims who lost their lives, including one -- Shane Tomlinson -- who was an ECU graduate.
