ECU's Kruczynski picked by Cardinals in MLB Draft

GREENVILLE, Pitt County - East Carolina University senior pitcher Evan Kruczynski was drafted in the ninth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.

Kruczynski was the Pirates' co-captain this season and battled injuries to post a 4-3 record and a 4.47 ERA. He had 48 strikeouts and seven walks in 56.1 innings. He held opponents to a .279 batting average and allowed 28 earned runs on 61 hits.

Kruczynski was named to three preseason All-America teams (NCBWA second team, Collegiate Baseball third team and Perfect Game third team). He was also a preseason American Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Year and preseason First-Team All-AAC.

He finished his ECU career with a 20-8 record and a 3.00 ERA in 273.1 innings. He allowed 276 hits, 108 runs (91 earned) and struck out 216.
