ECU students shave head for good cause
Some East Carolina University students were on the cutting edge of raising money to fight childhood cancer.
Students shaved their heads Monday as part of the Pirates Vs. Cancer. The event was used to raise awareness and money for pediatric cancer patients and research.
With a goal of $5,000, the students were able to raise more than $6,500.
"This is an effort to create solidarity with kids who are going through cancer treatment who don't have the option of going bald so kind of to show solidarity for them," participant Thomas George said.
Trevor Hunt helped organize the event and said it felt good to help such a worthwhile cause.
"One thing a lot of people don't know is pediatric cancers are the major illnesses that kill children so if a child is dying, it's likely due to pediatric cancer," Hunt said.
