Two Goldsboro residents charged in violent attack

GOLDSBORO, Wayne County - Two Goldsboro residents are behind bars after deputies say they assaulted a man outside a Five Points Food Mart.

The Wayne County Sheriff's Office arrested Yelson Baca, 19, and his girlfriend Genesis Herrera, 21. The pair are facing several charges including assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

The victim in the case told deputies he was traveling down US Hwy. 117 in the Mar Mac Community on March 6 when a vehicle in the other lane flagged him down. The victim recognized Baca and Herrera in the other vehicle. According to the victim, he got into a fight with Baca the night before at a bar.

Deputies say the victim pulled into the Five Points Food Mart and was then assaulted by the two. During the attack, the victim's car mirror was damaged, his car keys were stolen and his left ring finger was bitten. The victim lost his fingertip and fingernail.

The victim was transported to Wayne UNC Healthcare for his injuries.

Baca was charged with the following:

- Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury

-Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle

- Misdemeanor Larceny

- Possession of Stolen Goods

- Injury to Personal Property

Herrera was charged with the following:

- Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury

- Breaking and Entering Motor Vehicle

- Misdemeanor Larceny

- Injury to Personal Property

Both were placed in the Wayne County Detention Center. Baca was placed on a $30,000 dollar secured bond. Herrera was placed on a $8,000 secured bond.
