Weyerhauser Road begins to collapse
VANCEBOR, Craven County - A major road through western Craven County is closed and has started to crumble under pressure of flooding from Hurricane Matthew.
Craven County Commissioner Jason Jones confirmed to NewsChannel 12 late Saturday night that a stretch of Weyerhauser Road, Highway 43, is collapsing.
Jones say the N. C. Department of Transportation will now have to wait for floodwaters to recede before replacing the section of road.
Weyerhauser Road, River Road, and Streets Ferry Road all remain closed. Highway 17 through Vanceboro remains passable to traffic.
