Nate is now a Post-Tropical Cyclone


NEW BERN, Craven County - Nate is now a post-tropical cyclone. This means it has lost some of its tropical characteristics.

Nate made landfall as a category 1 hurricane near the mouth of the Mississippi River on the southeastern Louisiana coast Saturday night. Nate made a second landfall as a category 1 hurricane near Biloxi Mississippi at 1:30 am EDT.

No deaths or injuries were immediately reported.

Power outages are widespread. Storm surge pushed into the area around Biloxi's Golden Nugget Casino. Southern Mississippi and Alabama appear to be taking the worst of it. The New Orleans area reporting few problems.

The 11 a.m. Monday report from the National Hurricane Center, the storm was at 41.8 degrees north and 79.5 degrees west. It is currently about 40 miles east-southeast of Erie Pennsylvania and 45 miles northeast of west of Bradford Pennsylvania. The winds are at 15 mph and it is moving at northeast at 45 mph.
