Some ferry service cancelled Wednesday due to Tropical Storm Maria
OCRACOKE, Hyde County - Service for several ferry routes is cancelled Wednesday due to rough water conditions caused by Tropical Storm Maria, which is still churning roughly 150 miles east of North Carolina's coast.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation Ferry Division reported Wednesday morning that sound routes and the Hatteras to Ocracoke service will not be operational on Wednesday. Before it resumes the Hatteras to Ocracoke route, NCDOT said it needs the US Coast Guard to first verify the buoys and channels are safe.
The Cherry Branch to Minnesott Beach ferry service will resume normal operations as of 7:15 Wednesday morning after cancelling the last few runs on Tuesday evening due to the weather conditions.
