Severe Weather Alert Day declared for Tuesday

NEW BERN, Craven County - StormTrack 12 Meteorologists are tracking a second round of storms that could potentially bring danger to Eastern North Carolina this evening.

We will see us a break in the action that will last until mid to late afternoon. The strength of the later rounds of storms will depend on how much sunshine we see in Eastern North Carolina during the early afternoon hours.

Temperatures will surge into the upper 70s by the afternoon. A second round of storms will develop to our west by dinnertime and track east.

Heavy downpours, large hail and a better chance of damaging wind gusts are the main threats with the second round of storms.

The second line of storms will move off the coast after midnight but we're not done with the rain for the week, just yet. A pocket of cold air will set up over the eastern United States for the end of this week. We'll see some sunshine in the morning hours Wednesday-Friday but because of that pocket of cold air above, afternoon thundershowers will develop.

Things clear out just in time for Mother's Day weekend with sunshine and seasonable temperatures.
