Severe Storm Potential Waning

We have been tracking severe weather to our south through the day, and are beginning to see storms traveling into Eastern North Carolina.

The National Weather Service has downgraded our Severe Storm Potential from Enhanced to Marginal - with Marginal being the lowest of the five categories. The main reason for this was the lack of warming and sunshine between systems this afternoon, allowing for the limited instability - or lifting - over our region.

Gusty winds and lightning will likely occur through the night, but the threat for severe winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes has diminished. The best chance for strong storms is still along the coast between 11PM - 2AM.

We are continuing to monitor the situation as the system moves through the Carolinas, and will bring you up to the minute information both on-air and through our social media platforms.
