Seven Springs man dies after fight with detention officers
SEVEN SPRINGS, Wayne County - A man arrested in a vehicle burglary in Seven Springs who had to be taken to an ICU unit in Wayne County after continued fights with detention officers has died Wayne County Sheriff's Office officials said Tuesday.
On Saturday, May 20, deputies were called out to an area of Sanderson Road in Seven Springs, north of Goldsboro. Upon arriving, deputies discovered a car window broken out and determined Graydon Parker III, 54, was responsible for the damage.
Parker was arrested the same day at approximately 11:30 a.m.; however WCSO says Parker was uncooperative and fought with deputies, causing him to be charged with resist, obstruct and delay of a law enforcement officer.

He struggled with detention officers and assisting officers from other agencies, which led to him becoming unresponsive. He was transferred to Wayne UNC Healthcare and placed in ICU, where he died of his injuries, WCSO spokesman Tom Effler tells NewsChannel 12. Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce has requested the State Bureau of Investigation handle the inquiry into the incident.
