On Saturday, May 20, deputies were called out to an area of Sanderson Road in Seven Springs, north of Goldsboro. Upon arriving, deputies discovered a car window broken out and determined Graydon Parker III, 54, was responsible for the damage.

Following his transport to the Wayne County Detention Center, WCSO says Parker continued to be uncooperative throughout the day and night. He struggled with detention officers and assisting officers from other agencies, which led to him becoming unresponsive.

He was transferred to Wayne UNC Healthcare and placed in ICU, where he died of his injuries, WCSO spokesman Tom Effler tells NewsChannel 12.

Wayne County Sheriff Larry Pierce has requested the State Bureau of Investigation handle the inquiry into the incident.
