NEW BERN, Craven County - Police are investigating a deadly shooting in New Bern. Authorities say it happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1500 block of Beaufort Street.

Officers say they found Travon Marlowe, 22, dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

People who live around the scene say it looked like a car crashed into a street sign and power pole. It is unclear whether Marlowe was in that vehicle.

Friends of Marlowe said he was a father to a young son and a 2012 graduate of West Craven High School. They say there are still in shock that he is gone.

"It's hard to believe because it feels like we all just graduated not to long ago together you know and our lives were just starting, he basically got cheated out of his life and it is absolutely not fair," said Aaron Phillips.
