North Pitt football coach leaving for Havelock spot
GREENVILLE, Pitt County - After just one season at the helm, North Pitt High School football coach Brent Wooten resigned Wednesday to take an assistant coaching job at Havelock High School this fall.
Wooten confirmed the move to NewsChannel 12. The story was first reported by the Greenville Daily Reflector.
Wooten was also the co-athletic director for North Pitt HS. His departure means the school is without both an AD and a football coach since fellow co-AD Brady Quinn, who was also the school's softball coach, left in the spring.
According to the Daily Reflector, Panthers Offensive Coordinator Garrett Wingate will run the offseason workouts while the school goes through a coaching search, now just two months before the first game of the season.
The Panthers were 1-10 last season under Wooten in his only season as head coach. He was co-AD for five years and is a North Pitt alumnus.
