Northside caps unbeaten season, beats North Surry 86-67 in 2-A final
RALEIGH (AP) -- Zach Hobbs scored 22 points and Jacksonville Northside beat North Surry 86-67 on Saturday night in the Class 2-A North Carolina High School Athletic Association men's championship game.
Kenny Dye added 17 points and Gabe Kirkendoll finished with 16 for Jacksonville Northside (30-0), which shot 65 percent and made 11 of 14 shots in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Carter Phillips scored 26 points, Mason Hawks had 23 and Casey Hull finished with 10 for North Surry (27-5), which had 16 turnovers that Jacksonville Northside turned into 17 points.
Demetrius Jones had 14 points and Mike Satterfield had 12 for Jacksonville Northside, which held a 27-18 rebounding advantage and outscored North Surry 54-40 in the paint.
Hobbs, who also hit three of Northside's four 3-pointers, was selected as the game MVP.
