ATLANTIC BEACH, Carteret County - More buildings are set to be condemned at a vacation resort in Atlantic Beach.

Owners have 10 days to appeal the order of condemnation, according to a hearing report signed by Atlantic Beach Inspections Director Donna Turner and obtained by NewsChannel 12. Those 10 days end on August 11. Turner said the decks, balconies and stairways connected to buildings 15 through 25 of the Peppertree Condos are in a dangerous state.

If the problems are not fixed by August 11, Turner said the city can cut power off to the buildings and prohibit entry by condo owners and property management. Turner told us buildings one through 14 at Peppertree Condos were condemned in May and are set to be demolished in October.

If no appeals are made on the condemnation order for buildings 15 through 25, the report stated the condemnation will be final. It also stated if the decks, balconies and stairways are not brought up to code within 10 days, the town of Atlantic Beach may take any action necessary to have the structures demolished at the expense of the property owners.
