Former fire chief accused of embezzlement
A former chief of the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department is set to appear in Craven County Superior Court Tuesday morning. District Attorney Scott Thomas said Thomas Bowers stole more than $28,000 by using a fire department-issued credit card for personal use. Thomas said the offenses happened between June 2011 and July 2014. Bowers was indicted in June on six counts of felony obtaining property by false pretense and one count of felony embezzlement.
