Chocowinity town commissioner arrested for allegedly assaulting a female


CHOCOWINITY, Beaufort County - Chocowinity town commissioner, John Curtis Jenkins, was arrested for allegedly attacking a female.

Chocowinity Police Chief Greg Garris said they got the call at 9:50 p.m. Friday for a report of an assault. Chief Garris said a verbal argument in Jenkins' yard is what lead to the assault. Jenkins was arrested at 12:15 a.m. Saturday. He is charged with misdemeanor assault on a female.

NewsChannel 12's Jessica Winters spoke with Jenkins. He said the female was the one that attacked him on his own property, and that he has three witnesses to prove it. Officials said both Jenkins and the female made emergency calls to 911 after the incident.

Chief Garris said Jenkins was released from jail under a $5,000 unsecured bond. He is expected in court September 20 th .

According to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office, earlier this year a woman said she was choked by Jenkins on New Years Eve following an argument. Jenkins declined to comment on this incident.
