10,000 attend Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival, despite heat

SNEADS FERRY, Onslow County - The 46th Annual Sneads Ferry Shrimp Festival hosted around 10,000 people, organizers say.

The festival had activities for children, a parade, car show, vendors, and lots of shrimp.

"I went home yesterday for a couple of hours and I got to thinking, the shrimp festival is going on! I can't be sitting here at home, I got to go back out there," said Bernice Guthrie, 88.

Guthrie has been involved in every shrimp festival since the first one in 1971. She said she does not eat seafood, but comes back every year to see friends.

140 people volunteered, including 50 from the military. The festival is not for profit. All proceeds go towards scholarships and community events.
